House B&J
This newly re-built and enlarged coach house, close to the Amstel River, had yet to be constructed when plans for a contemporary family home were first drafted. The contours of the house were determined but the layout was made to measure to the wishes of the residents. Divided into 3 connected half floors, the effect is an open and inviting structure. Hidden doors make the corridors serene and understated. The repetition of shapes and fittings throughout the house makes each area feel connected as a whole. The chosen materials and forms also emphasize the history of the old coach house and the newly built features. The goal was to strike a balance between historic and contemporary.
